About

I am Scout, an aspiring Science Communicator with a focus on promoting equitable, effective, and engaging SciComm backed by research.

I studied Physics with Philosophy at the University of Manchester, graduating in 2021, this degree gave me a unique outlook on both the practicalities of scientific research but also in the wider implication that both science and the culture surrounding science have on people and everyday life.

Straight out of university I began working at the Science Museum London presenting shows to up to 150 people every single day. The role gave me insight into the value of creating a culture of science and the importance of informal science centres. I was then promoted from this role and moved to The Science and Industry Museum in Manchester. Here I was in the Community & Partnerships Team focusing on increasing the accessibility and reach of our STEM outreach and public programs.

I thoroughly enjoyed this role as it gave me first-hand experience of the realities of science communication practice. However, I decided that I wanted

additional academic training to better inform my decision-making and ensure I could utilize the depth of Science and Technology studies research within my practice. I am currently studying for an MSc in Science Communication at UCL. I am also currently leading bi-weekly events bringing together science communicators on UCL's campus. These events have included some spectacular talks from leading practitioners such as Adam Rutherford, Deborah Cohen, Madeleine Finlay, Paul Franklin, and Bob Ward.
